The BroadwayWorld Student Center is a comprehensive Student Database listing college and university performing arts programs across the country making it easier for prospective students by showcasing programs searchable by schools, location, degrees and concentrations.

The Student Center also offers a show calendar of college and high-school productions where schools can upload photos, videos, cast lists, articles and other media content for each of their shows. BWW will be combing through all content regularly and will launch weekly feature stories highlighting productions locally and nationally that have provided us with this extra content.

This week, we spotlight the Theatre Department of Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia, Arkansas!

Offering Bachelor of Arts in Theatre, The Department of Theatre Arts provides undergraduate students the opportunity to gain a broad spectrum of theatrical knowledge and experience within a Christian liberal arts setting. Productions are strongly student supported. The areas of involvement include acting, teaching, crewing, writing, directing, and designing. The Theatre Arts program challenges students to explore the theoretical and practical aspects of theatre as a significant force in history and culture. Particular attention is given to the collaborative process in theatre as an art form.

Ouachita’s theatre arts department provides the students with practical experience which is enhanced by classroom instruction. Through rehearsals and performance, students engage in the collaborative process and continue to develop their skills under faculty direction. Students interested in directing find opportunities to direct with faculty support and guidance. Design/tech students develop strong skills in the design/technical process in of each production. The committed faculty help students enhance their talents and prepare for their career goal.

Ouachita’s theatre mounts three main stage dramatic productions each academic year and an annual musical theatre production. An evening of one-acts, produced in the Fall semester, affords the senior level theatre majors an opportunity to direct under the supervision and guidance of our faculty. In the Spring we have a ten-minute play festival with plays written, produced and directed by students.

The 2012-2013 production season will present Sophie Treadwell's MACHINAL, a series of one-act plays by Horton Foote titlEd HarrisON, TEXAS, and the legendary musical HELLO, DOLLY!. For tickets and more information, click here.
